I have a nine year old cat...recently she started getting small bumps under her chin. Now, as of two days ago, she has a large lump just under her mouth. I fear it is a tumor and am wondering if anyone knows how much a biopsy would be at the vet. If anyone has experiences with and pricing information, please let me know. I am just trying to get an idea before we go to the vet appointment.
Thanks in advance...any information is greatly appreciated!

Thu, July 31, 2008 - 10:54 AMWow this sounds serious! I would take her to vet asap and have them tell you what it will cost. The exam will be roughly $45 though for them to take a look. -

Re: In serious need of information
Thu, July 31, 2008 - 12:05 PMIt very well may be cat acne. If you're using plastic food and water dishes, replace them with china and keep them scrupulously clean. Take her to a vet. They can give her cortisone to clear her up, and if it is something else, they will find it.

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 9:54 PMI agree with Domina. It sounds like acne. Does your cat eat or drink out of plastic bowls? These are notorious for causing acne because small abrasions in the surface harbor tons of bacteria. -

Re: In serious need of information
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 5:38 AMVeterinary fees vary so greatly from area to area, and from clinic to clinic - you will get your best information from going through the phone book and calling all the ones that you have easiest access to, to find out for yourself. I live in small town Minnesota, and the clinic I take my cats to, is more expensive than several others in the area (I chose it because it is the only accredited animal hospital in the area, and based on recommendations _against_ the other one in town) - prices within a 15 mile radius vary greatly here. I can only imagine that the range of fees in New York will vary even more - particularly as in large metropolitan areas there are more likely to be "discount" or sliding scale clinics for those of limited means.
The sooner you get your kitty in to see a vet, the better. If it is something simple, then you will have put your mind at ease. If it is something serious, so often catching a condition in an early stage can make a huge difference in how it needs to be treated, and in the prognosis.
Healing vibes to your kitty.

Fri, August 15, 2008 - 6:16 AMa large lump is not very specific.. how large i s large.. the size of a pencil eraser.. the size of a golf ball??????
Since you are using the word lump it sounds more like a tumor.. not just a pimple.
