hey all, I have a problem. Clara is supposed to get her annual at the vet on Saturday and they want me to bring in a stool sample, less than 12 hours old. The problem is, she doesn't use a litterbox since she has a cat door; she just goes outside. Any ideas? or am I just going to have to subject her to them "collecting the sample" at the vet (that sounds terrifying!)

I'd suggest (if she is indoors at night for example) shut the cat door and put up a temporary littler box somewhere she can easily get to it (bathroom or something). After you get it set up, take her over to it, have her paw around and get the feel of it and hopefully she will need to use it.
As for "collecting the sample at the vet"...I know some people like enemas and all that, but I don't have any intention of having one done...and I wouldn't put my cat through it. But that's me.
Good luck. -

Re: when nature calls...
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 4:51 PMit's just an annual checkup, so if you can't get a stool sample, don't sweat it - they'll just skip that test. Frankly, stool tests aren't all that accurate anyway for most parasites and if they don't have symptoms, I'm a little surprised this would be part of an annual checkup. It isn't around here.

Re: when nature calls...
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 11:40 PMThanks for all the ideas... I'll try shutting the cat door, and putting out a small litter box. But I guess I won't sweat it if she, er, doesn't complete the mission (lol!) I will just ask them about skipping that test at the vet.
