I had two kittens and unfortunately i had to get rid of one of them. the kitten who remained was always friendly and acted fine. now that he is the only kitten here he is overly needy and will not get out of my face. he jumps on my computer when i am trying to type. he wakes me up several times a night by jumping on me and purring loudly.
can i expect this behavior to last forever or will he settle down or do i have to get a second kitten again?

Re: lonely kitten
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 10:22 AMIt's quite likely that the solo kitten is exploring the new definition of his world and will settle down. Give him some time to learn the new patterns and expectations of his surroundings. There is a chance that this is his true personality, and that the other kitten was so dominant that his behaviors were stilted as a result. Even so, in either case, kittens tend to be more rambunctious and settle down as they grow into cats. You'll likely see improvement as you learn each others' ways.
For now, to help with your own sleep, try playing energetically with the kitten for an hour before your bedtime to make sure he's tuckered out as much as possible. -

Re: lonely kitten
Sun, November 1, 2009 - 12:30 PMThis is why I always had 2 kittens at once, so they could beat up each other instead of me and the curtains and furniture. Your remaining kitten probably feels anxious, because he doesn't know what happened to the other kitten or why. They simply need companionship and attention when they're little. They do grow out of it, though a lot of cats will wake you up for years, but you can train them out of this simply by refusing to get up.
