Hello,
a week ago i witnessed my 14 year old cat having a seizure. blood tests were made, nothing that hints towards anything like organ failure and stuff.
What other researches should i make?
does it make sense to put my cat on medication ? How often should seizures come to put him on this Phenobarbitol?
Anyone have experience with seizures? do they come more often later in time?
I watched him now for a week, he did not seem to have any. at least not during the days where i stayed at home. He has lost weight though so i assume that this was not the first seizure.
Help would be appreciated,
thanks sina

Re: seizures?
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 9:21 AMis it possible he has a brain tumor or something else putting actual pressure on the brain?
we had a standard poodle, a big one, who develope occasional seizures later in life.
I dont know what the latest thinking is on this. since cats are prety sell protcted from injuries when they fall by their anatomy, he's probabl going to be okay. in people, the main dangers from seizures are falling injuries (boken bones etc.) and the possibility of ceassation of breathing during the seizure for some people.
my intuition is to look into whether acupuncture might help. seizure medication is a very inexact "science" in Western biomedicine. -

Re: seizures?
Sun, September 21, 2008 - 2:47 AMwell i might do the MRT or screening of the head it just is very expensive. I might try to find out if he has a brain tumor in the veterinary clinic.
seizure medication is making him dependent and he needs it every day at the same time , and i do not lead such a egular lifestyle. so if you forget just about one hour he might even get more seizures just because of that. but if he needs the medication and it is really seizures then i will change my life of course.

Re: seizures?
Mon, October 13, 2008 - 8:26 AMMy cat has had three siezures in his 8 yrs of life. A great book (expensive) called "Problem- Based Feline Medicine". Siezures can be due to leukemia, feline immune deficiency, small or weak kidneys, brain tumor, hypoglycemia, a thiamine deficiency if the cat only gets cooked fish (thiaminase present), thyroid condition, dehydration, trauma, etc. Apparently the feline aids test is not highly reliable. I'm giving my kitty minerals and vitamins and massaging his abdomen and kidney.
Good Luck,
Peter
