So this started a couple of weeks ago, I think, but I just noticed it this morning.
When I do the laundry, I bring it in (ours is by the garage) and I take the basket, put it on the couch and start folding. I ALWAYS put the dryer sheets in the garbage in the kitchen (it's a bin with no lid). Anyway I did a load of laundry yesterday morning and today when I woke up, the dryer sheets were all in our hallway and one of my kitties was like cuddled up to it!!
I'd noticed the dryer sheets before around the house, but I figured it was just me forgetting to put them in the garbage, but NOW I know it was my kitty!!
Are dryer sheets bad for them, do you think? I guess if they are then I'll have to put them in a separate bag or something.

Thu, September 10, 2009 - 7:50 PMthere are a fair amount of what I consider toxic scents, waxes, etc in dryer sheets, though i've seen some "all natural" ones that contain lavender oil and a little baking soda only. I don;t use them for my own health, so probably best to keep them away from the cats. -

Wed, September 16, 2009 - 11:14 AMMy kitties would play with them like crazy... I could always tell when they played with them because their fur was also so soft and smelled nice afterwards. A nice distraction from the toilet paper roll, I guess. -

Fri, September 18, 2009 - 10:52 AMIt's probably the scent the kitty likes -- doesn't make it good for them, though. I figured out ages ago that dryer sheets and softeners make me itch all over, plus I smell a peculiar smell mixed in there that repels me, so I never use them. I'm sure some cats could be allergic, too. -

Sat, October 3, 2009 - 3:50 PMIt seems like you'd know already if the dryer sheets were bad for the cats, so I don't think you need to worry. Most cats like fresh, warm laundry. I usually find mine in the laundry basekt or the linen closet after a wash. But if you want to give them a substitute for the laundry sheets, you could give them a laundered sock, maybe stuffed with a bit of catnip. -

Wed, October 7, 2009 - 10:15 AMIf anyone is concerned and wants another option, quilt batting is a super-cheap cat toy that is free of the perfumes and products found in dryer sheets but with the same texture. My cats love it and spend hours kneading it and pouncing on it. A whole roll is only a few dollars, and you can cut a chunk off at a time so the roll lasts for months.
