Sun, November 2, 2008 - 1:49 PMcurious... here we keep cats in on Guy fawkes... for some reason a certain section of the youthful population went off persecuting catholics and started on cats... actually we are just talking holligans here! they don't even know who Fawkes was...... *sigh* -

Gyu fawkes
Mon, November 3, 2008 - 2:43 PMnor did Guy fawkes really DO anything all that damaging to parliament! overreaction.
but maybe we all need some paganderived mid-autumn holyday holiday in some form.
I'm here in the US and LOVED reading the Guy fawkes Day stories in Mary Poppins Opens the Door as a child.
there is a horrid tradition of little boys, especailly, and some teens doing unspeakable things to cats...some perverse dgradation of ancient hunting rights? learning that animals have feelings and wnt to enjoy their lives just as we do seems critical at this juncture in history... -

Re: Guy fawkes
Mon, November 3, 2008 - 11:51 PMAnd cats haven't been the only victims--there's that whole "hunting the wren" tradition at Midwinter. I think now they use a pretend wren, but it wasn't always so. -
