Domestic (cat) Violence

Any advice would be helpful. here is the situation: Tonya, my spayed 5-1/2 year old cat seems to take extreme offense to the sound of Spooky, my as yet un-spayed 15 month old who has gone back in to heat while i await another Spay voucher. The sound of the caterwauling immediately provokes Tonya to pounce on Spooky or to have a prolonged howl-and-growl which brings out Shadow, my 8 year old spayed girl, who has gone from being the sweetest, most docile kitty in the universe to being a nasty, opportunistic cheap shot artist who turns the situation into a three way brawl (complete with flying fur and copious use of the water pistol from me) by pouncing on whichever of the other two girls is closest to her. I can usually shoo Shadow away if i can persuade her away before a fight breaks out, but Tonya is more insistently hostile at times and i have had to go to some lengths to restrain her so as to minimize the amount of harm she and Spooky will inflict on each other and on my stuff. Meanwhile, when the tensions begin to mount, Spooky's kittens all scatter to safe territory away from the drama (The top of the DVD rack, the top of the kitchen shelf, inside the entertainment center behind the DVD player, in the bath-tub, in a desk drawer)

Hi Bender---I just responded to your other post before I read this one. I am quite relieved to know that Tonya is spayed. The nursing behavior is probably her desire to mother. Be careful though, the kittens can reproduce among themselves before you know it!! My mom took in a homeless kitten who, a month later, gave birth to 5 kittens!!! She was so huge that she couldn't climb the stairs! It was really sad to see such a young cat having babies, but my mom & I were there for the delivery and everything turned out fine. Now 3 months later, my mom has found homes for almost all the kittens, including 2 more that we rescued from the house next door after the owners moved out in the middle of the night & abandoned them in a locked house. She had lots of luck finding homes on Craigslist. I wish you luck & I want to say thanks for helping out the kitties!!
